Recreation Programs

Outdoor and recreational activities are for everyone! Whether you are new to the outdoors or experienced and looking to enjoy some of your favorite activities with new friends, there is something for everyone. Let the experienced staff at SCT provide you with everything you need to hone your skills in a fun and supportive environment.

Participation in all Southern Conservation Trust Recreational Programs requires a signed waiver, collected the day of the program and kept on file for up to 1 year.

With the guidance of SCT staff, participants will learn the steps of shooting including proper posture, stance, as well as grip, hook, and string release. Then we’ll go a few rounds at the targets and practice what we’ve learned.

See Fayetteville from a whole new perspective as we take to the trees! Join us as we teach participants rope-assisted tree climbing. We’ll go over a few safety protocols and then get a bird’s eye view of the downtown area surrounding Southern Conservation Trust’s new Fayette Environmental Education Center.

Want to fish but don’t have a pole or don’t know where to go? Let the Southern Conservation Trust show you the way! Join us in a group fishing experience learning the basics and about what types of fish call the Piedmont home.

Interested in camping, tree climbing, rock climbing, or boating? Knowing your knots is a great place to start. Join SCT staff and learn knot basics and what knots to use for certain tasks. Materials will be provided, and participants will get hands-on experience tying knots.

Join us for this family-friendly paddling experience with the staff of SCT. We’ll cover the basics of paddling, go over some safety protocols and then enjoy learning about all of the natural sights and sounds that the Southern Conservation Trust’s Nature Areas have to offer.

For a slightly older crowd, join the SCT staff for Paddling 2. We’ll quickly review paddling techniques and safety then jump right into enjoying and learning about all of the natural sights and sounds that the Southern Conservation Trust’s Nature Areas have to offer.

Bats eat mosquitoes and other pests while serving as efficient pollinators! Why not create a home for them at your house? You’ll build a house, learn how and where to hang it, and go home with something that will help you and wildlife out for generations.

Want to create a home for the bluebirds that visit your yard? Let the Southern Conservation Trust provide the materials, tools, and know-how. Participants will leave the program with a completed bluebird house that they can take home, decorate and install in the yard for bluebirds to use year after year.

Explore one of SCT’s six Fayette County Nature Areas and learn all about the plants, animals, and fungi that make these diverse areas their home. With a trained SCT staff member, enjoy learning all you wanted to know about the outdoors and more! Be sure to dress for the weather!

The world looks a little different after the sun sets. Join the staff of SCT and wildlife’s night owls to learn about, look and listen for the nocturnal critters that call SCT’s Nature Areas home.
